The Level 2 Concussion Management Workshop builds on the information taught in the Level 1 course and aims to apply the treatment techniques to different complex case studies.

The learning goals of the Level 2 course are to be able to prioritize and classify assessment findings using the Integrated Neuro Systems Framework, to help determine treatment strategies and order of treatment, to review some of the latest research with a focus on the areas of vision & vestibular rehabilitation, active rehabilitation, sleep and return to work.

CARE Consortium Research Review

  • Including removal from play, return to play and gender differences. Intimate Partner violence, pathophysiology and Sport concussion vs mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Classification of Persistent Symptoms after Traumatic Brain Injury

  • Review of different classification systems and introduction of Integrated Neuro Systems Framework (INSF) to guide assessment and treatment approach.

mTBI Symptom Management

  • Sleep strategies & review of literature, review of top priorities and treatment strategies including addressing sensory sensitivities, sleep, and planning & pacing

Sleep

  • Review of the Literature and treatment strategies

Active Rehab & Exercise

  • Review of the Literature

Group Breakout task

  • Scheduling for 12 year old returning to school with persistent symptoms

Vision and Vestibular Research

  • Review of the Literature

Case Study #1 –Work Related Injury

  • Small group work to review case and utilize the INSF to highlight relevant assessment findings and develop and prioritize treatment plan. Review assessment and treatment in large group discussion

Return to Work

  • Review of the Literature

Case Study #2 – Motor Vehicle Accident

  • Small group work to review case and utilize the INSF to highlight relevant assessment findings and develop and prioritize treatment plan. Review assessment and treatment in large group discussion

App Exploration

  • Depending on time we will look more closely at some useful apps to use for treatment.
